China's Beidou: Stand in Space, Serve the Whole Globe
At present, Beidou, consisting of 35 satellites, is planned to be laid out in the space, and the application of Beidou on the ground and industrial development are also booming.
Around 2020, there would be 35 satellites launched to establish the network, and built a global satellite navigation system.
Until now, 23 navigation satellites are launched for Beidou Navigation Satellite System. China has become the third country in the world after the United States, Russia, with independent satellite navigation system. As for the currently-running Beidou No.2 system, the positioning is more accurate than 10 meters, speed is more accurate than 0.2 m/s, and timing is more accurate than 50 nanoseconds. The construction of Beidou No.3 system is steadily advancing, and 5 Beidou No.3 satellites have been certified, breaking through the core technology of system. By 2020, there would be 35 satellites launched to establish the network, and built a global satellite navigation system to provide services to global users.
Since Beidou Navigation Satellite System was put into use in 2012, performance indicators of Beidou showed steady improvement, and it is able to provide high-quality navigation and positioning services equivalent to US GPS to users in a stable manner. Used for the global network, the new generation of Beidou navigation satellites also achieve multiple breakthroughs in the history of construction of Beidou, including launching the satellite directly into the medium and high orbit, using the new navigation satellite platform, and the new design navigation signal system, all for the first time.
Beidou has also become the third global satellite navigation system recognized by the International Maritime Organization and obtains the legal status of international maritime applications. This year in March, the multi-system shipborne receiver standard, compatible with GPS, Beidou, and GLONASS, was approved. In terms of international mobile communication standards, Beidou has become the global satellite navigation system supporting the international mobile communication standards. Currently, 26 articles of Beidou international standards have been formulated. Driven by related mobile communication standards, the penetration rate for Beidou in China's mobile communication sector has reached 25%.
In the field of transportation, land resources, disaster prevention and relief and other industries and applications in the public consumption, satellites and ground stations are both required to be established so that the value of Beidou could be maximized. At present, Beidou has been successfully applied into the transportation, land resources, disaster prevention and relief, agriculture, forestry, and water conservancy, surveying and mapping, emergency search and rescue and other industries and applications of mass consumption.
According to reports, driven by the first industry demonstration project, namely "demonstration project of key transport process monitoring and management", there are over 4 million operating vehicles installed with terminals compatible with Beidou in China, forming the world's largest operating vehicle dynamic monitoring system, effectively strengthening the monitoring efficiency of operating vehicles, and raising the level of road transport safety.
Beidou can be used to monitor landslides, debris flow caused by rainstorm, and other disasters, and give early warnings. Via the Beidou's function of high-accuracy monitoring, the mountain displacement can be monitored in real time, facilitating the early evacuation and warning on the corresponding areas and roads by relevant departments. In particular, the Beidou also features an unique function of short message. In the event of storm, if the ground communication signal interrupts, the Beidou short message function can be given full play. It can send information about disaster smoothly, and the accurate positioning information also provide important support for emergency rescue.
The application of Beidou into the field of fishery is very typical. At present, there are over 50,000 ships equipped with Beidou terminals in China's Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, East China Sea, South China Sea and other waters. With Beidou terminal, fishermen can run terminals with the mobile phone network, greatly solving the needs of maritime communication, and provide a very good way of sending information in coastal areas. In addition, the Beidou has also been successfully applied into the sea oil spill environmental monitoring, marine section buoy observation, and maritime search and rescue.
In addition, with its own navigation positioning, and short message, the Beidou establishes an umbrella for the elderly, children, and disabled people. Last year, Beidou special care terminals and platforms were launched in Beijing, Shanghai, Hebei, Henan, Hunan, Shaanxi, Qinghai, Jiangsu, Sichuan and other provinces. Some provinces with the Beidou special care platform also achieved connection with the public security system. If old people, children come into trouble, they can use the Beidou terminal to call the police with one key, and the public security system will respond immediately to protect their safety.
Basic products can achieve self-control, and technology level may reach the international advanced level.
Currently, the Beidou has formed a relatively complete Beidou industry including basic products, application terminals, and running services. The early market has been cultivated, and Beidou is now extending from the industry application to the public application, indicating the rapid growth. For example, more than 40% of domestic smart phones have been equipped with chips compatible with Beidou, and there are almost 300 million terminal products of each type equipped with chips compatible with Beidou.
Basic products have achieved the autonomous and controllable function, the technology level has reached or closely reached the international advanced level. In this year, February 28, China's first independently developed "meter-level fast positioning Beidou chip" was officially launched, marking the Beidou was applied officially into the era of meter-level positioning. The industrial application of Beidou is also accelerating. White Paper of China Satellite Navigation and Location Services Industry released in this year's May showed that the overall output value of China's satellite navigation industry in 2016 reached 211.8 billion yuan, up by 22.06% year on year. The output value of industry core, including the chip, device, algorithms, software, navigation data, and terminal equipment, directly related to satellite navigation technology, has reached 80.8 billion yuan, and the contribution rate for the Beidou has reached 70%.
With the emergence of wearing equipment, unmanned aerial vehicles and other intelligent hardware, the Beidou is also integrated with the new technology, generating the Beidou shared bicycle, Beidou box, Beidou space table, Beidou call car, Beidou vegetable, and huochebang. Take the Beidou Vegetable for example, it combines the internet of things, and uses Beidou to provide location information, making the planting, harvesting, transporting, and marketing all traceable, ensuring people can eat fresh vegetables with high quality.
