High Technologies Such as Drones and Satellite Images Help Protect the Great Wall

Which high and new technologies are used in the Great Wall protection? Song Xinchao, deputy director of the National Cultural Heritage Administration, said on January 24 that the National Cultural Heritage Administration has launched pilots in 15 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities to protect important sections of the Great Wall using high-tech technologies such as drones and satellite images.

According to Song Xinchao, the National Cultural Heritage Administration has been exploring the introduction of high-tech approaches in the protection of the Great Wall. The next step is building a monitoring platform for the protection and management of the Great Wall on the basis of the existing world cultural heritage monitoring platform of the Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage to conduct real-time and dynamic monitoring and management of the Great Wall, in order to improve the efficiency and effect of our management.

Song Xinchao introduced that drones, satellite images and other high technologies have played a significant role in the protection of the Great Wall. Drones can be used for regular flight monitoring, as well as timely detection and verification of changes and management problems of the Great Wall, while satellite images can be used for regular comparative analysis of some sections of the Great Wall, including monitoring of construction and other aspects along the Great Wall.
