Mission of the Party Branch in Navigation of China Academy of Space Technology: I am a Party member and I shall take the lead
As one of the “engines” of space technology innovation in China, BeiDou navigation system has created Chinese navigation satellite system from scratch. The BeiDou Navigation Satellite System will provide service for countries alongside the Belt and Road this year. The party branch in the navigation of China Academy of Space Technology is the main force for finishing the task.
Mechanical tests on the BeiDou-3 satellite which will be launched in the second half of the year are under way in the factory of China Academy of Space Technology. Zhou Huichao, director of the overall department of China Academy of Space Technology said: “I think party members should first have the spirit of taking the lead. The slogan ‘I am a member of the Party and I shall take the lead’ calls on everyone to compete to be excellent and strive to set an example for others.”
The inter-satellite links is the key technology for BeiDou navigation system to build up global network. For data transmission, scientists need to build a path between satellites launched into space. The task was handed over to Wang Haihong, a party member of five year standing. At the time he just came to work in China Academy of Space Technology, he was still unfamiliar with the work. And right in this time, Chen Zhonggui, an old party member, became his supervisor. It is the tradition of the Party branch of the navigation to allocate newcomers with a supervisor.
Chen is the chief designer of the BeiDou-3, a party member of 30 years standing. In order to push China’s inter-satellite links technology at the forefront of the world, he proposed a new research and development plan for Wang Haihong. Chen knows well that innovation means taking the risk of failure.
Wang Haihong, chief designer of China Academy of Space Technology said that: once a new technology is developed, developers should be responsible for the reliability of this technology, and this is a kind of taking responsibility.
Encouraged by the veteran Party member, Wang Haihong wrote programs in front of his computer every day and made more than 200 simulation experiments. After five years of research, BeiDou-3 testing satellite was successfully launched in July of 2015, and meanwhile the new technology was testified.
By giving play to the role of the Party branch as a fighting fortress, the BeiDou people have created a practice of the old leading the new so as to pass on BeiDou culture and the young talents of the team can grow rapidly.
Chen Zhonggui, chief designer of BeiDou-3 said: “Rome was not built in a day. It had to be built step by step, on the shoulders of its predecessors.”
Over the years, the ranks of party members have developed so great combating capacity that the BeiDou people have overcome one difficulty after another. Nowadays, the BeiDou research team is moving towards the goal of realizing global networking by 2020.
