Chinese Space Station Launches International Cooperation - China Enters the Space Station Age
On the night of May 28, Permanent Mission of the PRC in Vienna and United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs co-hosted in Vienna the launch ceremony of Chinese space station international cooperation opportunity announcement, officially launching the international cooperation of Chinese space station. The ceremony invited countries all over the world to carry on cooperation such as the experiment of inside and outside loading with China’s future space station. This is the first time in Chinese space history to open space station for international cooperation.
Chinese space station represents the last step of the three-step strategy of Chinese manned spaceflight project. After successfully completing the missions of Chinese Long March 7 Y1 rocket, Tiangong 2 space laboratory, the Shenzhou 11 manned spacecraft, Tianzhou 1 cargo spaceship, China achieves the “second step” of manned space flight project in full victory.
Chinese space station plans to launch the core module in around 2020, and the entire station is expected to compete its construction and be put into operation in 2022. With 10 years of design life and orbit altitude 340-450 km, the space station allows 3 astronauts to work and live in-orbit at the same time, and 6 during shifts.
