Foreign Media: International Space Station Will Have the First Space Laser Communication System Installed in Space Station
Recently, according to Russian Sputnik, a spokesman for Airbus said that the first large-capacity space laser communication system OSIRIS will be installed on Bartolomeo commercial research platform of International Space Station.
According to reports, the space laser communication system will be directly linked with several ground stations and will provide Bartolomeo with an unprecedented large capacity which can guarantee 10G data transmission per second.
The commercial research external platform of Bartolomeo has a module for various payload studies, and this module is composed by 12 segregation bays with payload. The design of the segregation bay which was brought up recently is approved.
Airbus said that all preparation work will be completed soon and that the segregation bays will carry part of the payload into the International Space Station in 2019.
